MotionVault developer API

Read-only public discovery for original website templates and supporting design assets. No API key is required for public discovery or free-template prompts/source. Premium source requires membership; premium prompts require membership or an already redeemed Prompt Pack choice, authenticated by the website session or personal templates:read Bearer key. Current API version: 1.0.0-beta.2. The catalog currently contains 51 website templates and 96 supporting assets; queued production briefs are not inventory.

Quick start

Fetch the catalog, choose an exact template ID from its templates array, then retrieve source and asset URLs. Supporting assets already include their editable source in designAssets. All requests below are GET requests and do not generate media, spend credits, submit forms or publish a website.

Endpoints

• GET /api/v1/catalog — published templates and designAssets, including free prompts, engine, format, media metadata and asset paths. Paid prompts are omitted and marked promptLocked:true.
• GET /api/v1/templates/{id}/source — standalone HTML and assets. Free templates are public; premium source requires an active Pro, Lifetime or Founder membership. Prompt Packs grant prompts, not premium source.
• GET /api/templates/{id}/prompt — server-owned build prompt. Premium prompts require membership or an already redeemed pack choice. GET never redeems a credit.
• GET /api/v1/capabilities — exact tool input schemas, resources, prompts and client-invoked skill/agent guides from the bundled agent kit.
• GET /openapi.json — OpenAPI 3.1 schemas and response/error contracts.
• GET /api/legal — current public terms/privacy versions and operator metadata. This existing endpoint has no v1 alias.

The equivalent /api/agent/catalog, /api/agent/templates/{id}/source and /api/agent/capabilities endpoints remain working aliases with the same response shape; they do not redirect.

Access and personal read keys

Create a personal read key while signed in to your own workspace. Keys are shown once, stored only as hashes, expire after 90 days and can be revoked. Use Authorization: Bearer YOUR_PERSONAL_READ_KEY for authorised premium reads. Local stdio clients may set MOTIONVAULT_API_KEY; a shared public HTTP MCP server forwards only each caller's key and never lends its owner's key. Never paste keys into prompts, public URLs, repositories or shared configuration.

Personal keys cannot redeem Prompt Pack credits, change billing, manage accounts, generate media or publish. Choose/redeem pack prompts in your signed-in website workspace; subsequent authorised reads are idempotent. Refunds/disputes revoke unavailable grants while preserving redemption history.

The example is abbreviated: always use the current response rather than assuming the example asset is the complete manifest. Download every returned asset and preserve relative package paths, font notices and native provenance. The source endpoint rewrites asset references to public URLs for browser inspection. Exported demo forms prepare an enquiry file; connecting a real delivery service is your responsibility.

Errors

• 401 AUTH_REQUIRED / INVALID_READ_KEY — sign in or use a valid, unexpired personal read key.
• 403 MEMBERSHIP_REQUIRED / PROMPT_REDEMPTION_REQUIRED — the account lacks membership or has not redeemed this prompt. Read-only agents cannot spend a credit.
• 400 INVALID_TEMPLATE_ID — use 1–120 letters, numbers, underscores or hyphens, then choose an exact catalog ID.
• 404 TEMPLATE_NOT_FOUND — the ID is not in the published catalog. Refresh the catalog; do not guess source URLs.
• 503 CATALOG_UNAVAILABLE — the generated catalog could not be read. Retry later with bounded backoff.
• 503 SOURCE_UNAVAILABLE — a published source package is temporarily missing or unavailable. Do not substitute another template.
• 503 CAPABILITIES_UNAVAILABLE — the bundled capability inventory is temporarily unavailable.

Shared API middleware can additionally return 429 or reject malformed requests. Check HTTP status before parsing data. Do not retry invalid IDs or repeat a failed request indefinitely. These read-only endpoints accept no credentials or personal information in query parameters.

Versioning and known beta limits

Responses carry X-MotionVault-API-Version: 1.0.0-beta.2 and a Link header pointing here. The v1 path is the public contract; clients should ignore additional optional fields. A breaking public shape change requires a new major path. Legacy aliases are retained; no retirement date is announced. This beta has no uptime SLA, signed release feed or server-side search endpoint. The read-only agent interface cannot change accounts, redeem pack credits, bill or publish. Filter the returned catalog locally. Inventory can change between builds.

Media must be classified from actual metadata: cinematic.video means generated subject footage; cinematic without video is photography with runtime motion; procedural means live geometry/shaders. Some GPU studies also carry cinematic layout metadata. Inspect engine and procedural before presenting a Film label. A template count is not a claim that every entry is a filmed three-shot website.

MCP and agent use

Use https://mcp.motionvault.site/mcp for stateless Streamable HTTP discovery and bounded engineering tools. Read agent setup, the agent guide and the first-party source. Skill and agent files are reusable instructions invoked by your client, not an autonomous background service. The public kit cannot access private accounts, send email, charge a card, generate paid media or deploy.

Formats and rights

Send Accept: text/markdown for a public page's Markdown representation, including this documentation. Unknown page paths return a Markdown 404 when that format is preferred. JSON endpoints remain JSON.
